I’m Karl Joachim Brende, an economic historian and currently Visiting Research Fellow and Research Assistant at BI Norwegian Business School. I completed my Master’s degree in Economic History at the University of Oslo under the supervision of Professor Einar Lie.
You can find my CV here.
My research investigates private non-intermediated credit, informal credit, and the comparative financial history of Scandinavia. With a focus on the evolution from traditional credit markets and financial instruments such as bills of exchange, mortgages, trade credit, and bonds.
I employ quantitative and interdisciplinary methods, including social network analysis, GSI, econometrics, machine learning, and OCR. My goal is to better understand how these social relationships, credit markets, and financial instruments shaped past economic and social life.
